I took another unplanned break from blogging. After my temp job ended, I was drained. Thankfully I was able to meet a few great people at the job and make some great connections. I was already working on creating a new business, but while I was researching that, an opportunity for another business opened up. I’ve been an event planner for a decade now and finally decided to start my own event planning company. Thanks to my amazing graphic artist Alexia, she helped my vision for Marquis EPM come true.
Marquis EPM focuses mainly on events and project management, but we also do a little community development. For the last month I’ve been working on this big project for #GivingTuesday. What is #GivingTuesday? It’s a GLOBAL day dedicated to giving back that was started two years ago. Giving Tuesday piggybacks off Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but it’s all about giving back to the community. This year #GivingTuesday is TODAY, DECEMBER 2. Giving Tuesday is 24-hours dedicated to giving of time and resources. Baltimore created a great campaign last year called B’More Gives More and was able to raise $5.7 million dollars. This year the State of Maryland is trying to raise $12.2 million for its nonprofit organizations with a campaign called Maryland Gives More. After doing lots of research for Giving Tuesday, I realized that Washington, DC did not have a collaborative effort for this day of giving and my team and I decided to organize something. We created a campaign called DC Gives More.
This project has been a labor of love, but I encourage YOU to participate in #givingTuesday and give back to the local nonprofits in your area. If you’re interested in supporting the nonprofits that are participating with DC Gives More, you can make a donation here. Every little bit helps.

I have a bunch of other plans in the works for 2015, including the launch of my previously planned business. If you’re wondering what that business is all about, you can follow the Twitter and Facebook accounts I recently set up.
