January has always been my favorite month of the year because its my birth month and many of my favorite people are January babies as well. However, this past January was not that good to me. I was in this crazy funk and totally unmotivated. My dad had a serious surgery the prior month and I even landed a stay in the hospital for a couple of days (UGH). Again, I was labeled a “Fall Risk” and this was all over my chart.
Once I was out of the hospital, I had several followup doctors appointments and now I feel like an old person taking all these pills, but as long as they keep me healthy, I won’t complain too much.
At the end of January, a few of my girls and I decided to go to brunch at SAX in DC. We had TOO much fun. All I can say about that is “Unlimited mimosas are dangerous.”
|Yes thats lipstick on my nose. No clue how it got there.|
After that brunch I was feeling a little more like myself, but still not 100% back to normal. Thankfully one of my best friend’s baby shower was coming up and I was excited about that. Turns out the trip home to Connecticut was just what I needed to get back in gear.
I flew home early on a Saturday morning. I HATE early morning flights, but I actually made my flight. I met up with my other best friend D and we ran around getting essentials for the shower. The house was decorated by the proud father-to-be. He did a great job, he candy bar and all.
I love making D feel uncomfortable and Tashanda helped out.
My bestie almost cried when she saw me in her house because she wasn’t expecting me to be at the shower at all. I love surprised and it was good to see the girls and catch up face-to-face. Sunday was Super Bowl Sunday and my brother had a party. I stuffed my face and watched the game. Still disappointed that my Patriots weren’t playing, but while I was home I went shopping for a little Patriots gear. I’ve always been a fan of hats.
Monday morning I had an EXTRA EARLY morning flight (6:30 a.m.) and had to go to work straight from the airport. I don’t know how I survived at work all day, but I did without ever getting tired. Anyway it turns out that the trip home to CT was just what I needed to get me out of my funk. Sometimes you need to go home, see some familiar faces and visit some familiar places (even though I got a little lost on the way to the grocery store, we won’t talk about that) to regroup.
I’m back! I have lots of things to post. Lots of recipes as well. To my roommate’s delight, I have been cooking a lot lately. I’m trying to improve my diet and add foods that will help me stay healthy. Stay tuned…
